Every Meal fights child hunger through community and school partnerships across Minnesota. Their Weekend Meal Program ensures food-insecure children have nutritious meals when school isn’t providing them.
The numbers tell the story: 375 school partnerships resulting in 12,000 kids fed every weekend.
When urgent community needs surged earlier this year, Every Meal mobilized quickly distributing more than 32,200 additional food bags (and counting) to ensure children had access to food when they needed it most. That rapid, flexible response was made possible by strong community support and operational systems designed to scale with growing demand.
Every Meal had grown from a $500,000 operating budget to $5.4 million in under a decade. With that growth came complexity: inventory tracking, cost of goods sold, compliance, and board reporting all needed to keep pace.
“We needed better reporting. We needed better KPIs. We needed to see these numbers differently,” Nicole said.
When their longtime part-time CFO retired, Every Meal needed a partner who could support both day-to-day operations and higher-level financial strategy.
Since July 2024, Every Meal has partnered with AIOA for fractional controller and CFO services. Joseph, their dedicated team member, jumped in immediately.
“He asked all the right questions, met all the folks, and has really been so helpful in creating higher-level analysis tools,” Nicole said. “Cash flow, capital campaign revenue, the things we need to assess at a leadership level or with our finance committee and board. These are financial analysis tools we didn’t have before All In One Accounting.”
When AIOA shared their internal workbook format, Every Meal loved the structure so much they adopted it for their own reconciliations.
“We’re not going to reinvent the wheel. We like this,” Nicole said. “It’s not only a checklist, it’s a snapshot in time of our balance sheet. Streamlining it and making it more efficient, we’re all working on the same process. It allows us to be live time and have the best reporting that we can.”
Every Meal now has consistent, streamlined reporting for their finance committee and their board.
“Joseph’s been really great in streamlining our deck. Boom, boom, boom. These are the key core metrics we report on every month. We can go month to month and just see the good work.”
